"Good pot when you're cooking, but not made the best." 2009-11-25
By J. Miller
I purchased this pot about 6 months ago and I've only used it about 5 times in that time making some soups or poaching chicken and works great for heat transfer and being more then roomy enough. But after only my 5th time using it the side of the pot cracked half the way down off one of the handle rivets. Stainless steel and the thing cracked in half from making soup?

 "truly great value" 2010-01-26
By P. Fox
I had been on a search for the ideal "lobster/giant" pot for some time.

The Prime Pacific Stock Pot is far superior to its enameled cousins. It has a nice thick heat conducting base for even heating, which means that it's good for sauteeing onions, etc. for soups and chilis.

It's attractive, easy to clean, and contrary to other reviews, the handles seem sturdy enough for normal use.

It costs at least $100 less than the next step up.

 "Acceptable!" 2010-01-18
By C. Warren (Oklahoma City, Okla.)
The 21 Qt. stainless steel stock pot was what I wanted. It is acceptable! I have cooked one time, and am very satisfied with the results. The only objection is the rim that holds the glass cover; it is of very light construction. It was "dinged" when I opened the box it came in; however, a small problem that I can live with. I would recommend it to others.

 "Why buy aluminum?" 2010-01-04
By F. Smith (Franklin, NJ)
This really is a great pot. I am not sure why anyone would buy a cheap aluminum version when they have this. I use this one for home brewing beer and wine, but really you could make pasta in it if you felt like it. My only complaint is that the top is glass and it could possibly break, but so far I have no corrosion to report. Very happy.

 "Buyer's Remorse - second-quality merchandise" 2009-12-31
By Hamilton Keller
The geometry of the pot does not match the geometry of the lid...therefore the lid does not fit tight the way it should. Other reviewers have noted the same problem which makes me think Amazon is not selling first-quality products.

The pot's diameter is 14"...which leaves a lot of the bottom off the flame and makes for a tight fit in a standard size double-sink.

Hamilton Beach makes a nice quality 20-QT 18/10 SS pot with a glass lid for less. Walmart sells a nice quality 22-QT 18/10 SS pot with a glass lid for less.

Based on the poor construction quality and better values in the market place...I cannot recommend this pot.

UPDATED: 1/13/10

To Amazon's credit...they shipped a replacement pot; however...this one had the same design flaw. The diameter of the pot between the handles is less than the diameter across the handles which is why the lid does not fit snug.

 "Great Cheese Maker" 2009-12-15
By Dan (Annapolis, MD)
My wife uses this for cheese making and I've used it for some large pots of chili. Pot is very sturdy, well made and handles don't get hot. The pot is not too tall either, good height if you are worried about clearance with a low oven hood. Also used it to brine a turkey. Great all purpose pot!

 "Love Calphalon" 2010-01-17
By Fifi (Denver,Co)
Though I have yet to use this stockpot, I did purchase it at a good price and had always wanted this size. I have had and purchased Calphalon for many years and I can say that there is a marked difference in the product from the pans that I bought years ago, so I do wonder about the quality. Hard Anodized if used correctly can be one of the best metals to use in cooking. Read the directions and follow them and you will love this as much as I do. This is my most recent purchase so all my other Calphalon is much older and still in great condition. If this product doesn't hold up in the same fashion I will update this review, but as of now I'm a Calphalon FAN!! Thanks Amazon for the grat prices. PS the best time to buy the Calphalon is on their Friday sale day!

 "Leaking from handle" 2010-01-14
By Corinne Riley
I purchased this on the Deals of the day. Received it, used it the next day making soup, when I went back to the kitchen, the soup was leaking out of the handle. I returned it as defective, Amazon sent me a new one, decided to fill it up with water to test and the handle leaked on that one too! I am returning this one and had also ordered a 7 quart and I canceled that order. Wouldn't buy this product again.

 "Calphalon 12 quart pot" 2010-01-07
By Barbara J. D'ambrosio (Las Vegas, Nevada)
This is without a doubt the best pot I have ever used! While cooking, the lid does not get so hot that one cannot pick it up. Also, if the pot needs to be picked up by the handles on the side, you will not burn yourself. The heat is transfered equally throughout the pot (bottom, sides, etc.) as it is cooking. It is easy cleanup. I now want a whole set.

 "My favorite pot" 2009-12-30
By Teresa Preston (Rochester, NY)
I've had this for about 4 years now, and it's my all-time favorite pot. I make everything in it - soup, stew, chili, sauce, even candy. Heats evenly and holds heat well, the lid fits nicely and the handles stay relatively cool on the cook top. I've never used it in the oven but it's supposed to be rated to 500 degrees. I really don't know what I'd do without it.

"poor quality - used once and noticed spots just from boiling water" 2009-12-31
By D. Richards (Detroit, MI United States)
Bought this pan at a major department store. Used the pan once to make pasta. Upon boiling the water we noticed spots inside the bottom of the pan. We quickly emptied the water and sure enough, the spots were still there. The three black spots would not clean up. It's almost as if the aluminum is defective. We'll be returning the pot for a full refund and we will be weary about Cuisinart cookware in the future.

 "nice pot" 2009-12-07
By Nancy Tropkoff (cleveland ohio)
This is my favourite soup and stew pot. Not as heavy as I wish it would be, but quite nice all the same. After a few uses it had some weird pitting/discolourations on the bottom. I called Cuisinart and asked them what it was, and they told me how to get rid of it, but never did tell me what caused it.

 "Fudge Pan Perfection!" 2009-10-03
By Fuzzyface Place (Pennsylvania, USA)
Ok, I use this pan to make the most divine goat milk fudge from scratch, on a glass top stove...not an easy feat for sure. A decadently smooth batch with perfect set is all about the pan, even temperatures, and lots of stirring. (Lots and lots of Stirring!)

I have tried quite a few stainless steel pots/pans; some very expensive some mid-range, and none have produced results as nice as this pan.

First- this pan's curved sides and attachment angle to the bottom make for easier stirring with less hand fatigue and also eliminates small missed stir area edges like on straight sided pans. This is important because sugar crystal buildup happens where your spoon tip can't reach or get into on every stir swipe and the crystals ruin the smoothness of the fudge.

Second- the bottom heats completely even (on my stove anyway) and distributes the heat up the sides evenly too. Just as important, once removed from the heating element the pan cools quicker than other pans and this makes for better incorporation of added ingredients with a thicker set up.

This pan is light and has a very smooth bottom. The brand name imprint on the bottom doesn't affect the smoothness, like on other stainless steel pans. As I'm stirring in one direction, I can easily spin the pan in the opposite direction on my glass top. It's balanced well, stays in place while I'm doing this, and glides effortlessly.

Yeah, I know... not supposed to spin or slide pans on glass cook tops and normally I don't.

Third- Because of the lighter weight of this pan, as compared to other stainless steel, it's easier to pour the fudge out into the awaiting pans. This is never an easy thing to do, but the pan's lighter weight is helpful, especially with a large batch of fudge. The tapered rim also helps for a smooth pour.

Fourth- it cleans up like a dream.

"Great quality for a reasonable price" 2007-11-09
By B. C. Specht (Greensburg, PA United States)
I have a number of pieces of Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Stainless cookware and I really love each one. I only wish I learned of this cookware before buying an entire set of another brand. You can't beat this line of cookware for quality and performance at a reasonable price. Like most of the multiclad cookware, it is stainless steel on the outside and inside of the pot or pan with a layer of heat-conducting aluminum sandwiched in between for excellent heat conductivity all across the bottom and all the way up the sides of the vessel. I think the quality of the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Stainless cookware is on a par with the oh-so-pricey All Clad cookware. It heats quickly and evenly with no hot spots or scorching. You don't need to gun up your burners to their highest settings. With only medium-high heat, you can create beautifully browned meats, fish, caramelized onions, mushrooms, etc. Turn the heat low and create smooth, perfect bechemel or other sauces with no worry of scorching. This cookware will do it all just as well as All Clad and it won't break the bank. My only complaint about it is that the sauce and stock pots and the 3-quart saute pan are a little smaller than their claimed size. This 6-Quart Saucepot with Cover, for instance, only holds 5 1/2 quarts measured to the rim. But, if that 1/2 quart difference isn't a problem, then this is an excellent, highly usable and versatile pot for doing soups, stews, braising, cooking sauces, pasta or any number of cooking tasks. The handles are generously sized and firmly attached. The pot has a convenient curved pouring lip so hot liquids won't run down the outside of the pot when you are trying to pour pasta into a colander or bubbling hot soups into a serving bowl. The lid fits snugly onto the pot to help hold in moisture while simmering or braising. The pot can go right from the stove top into the oven because it is all stainless steel on the outside. I preheat my pans over medium heat for 3 minutes before adding cooking oil (and a little butter) and then I add the food to be browned. Clean-up is easy. Deglaze any stuck-on bits of food or let it soak with some water before washing in hot, sudsy water. Use some Bartenders Friend cleanser for stainless steel to keep these pans looking like knew.

I already have Calphalon Unison saute, sauce and frying pans. I needed a pan to cook pasta and rice for myself and was unwilling to use my saucepan for such a task. Overall I'm not sure this pan is worthwhile, if you can afford it I'd definitely recommend spending more for a heavier gauge pan.

"Love these pans, but this one hasn't aged well" 2009-10-31
By Mainiac (Portland, Maine, USA)
I have more and more pans in this line. I actually LIKE that they're lighter weight than many pans; it makes it much easier for me to hold the pan with one hand while pouring or scraping the last bits of whatever out of it.

The main review I wrote for the line of cookware is here:

http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-Classic-Stainless-14-Piece-Cookware/dp/B00186YCI6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1260134047&sr=1-2

This and the everyday pan are the two that get the most use in this household.

Two of the pans I've bought in this line went back immediately, due to irregularities on the bottom, so I advise you to check what you receive. This one was fine when I got it, it just hasn't aged well.. there are dark spots on the inside that seem to be impurities in the stainless steel. None of my other dozen or so Chef's Classic pans have done this, so I suspect this was a flaw as well and for the price, I might just buy another one. It might also be because we cook a lot of pasta in this house and because I'm not a fastidious housekeeper and because this particular pan is more likely to be left sitting around with water in it. (This pan never really gets put away... it's either in the sink or the dishwasher or the stovetop.)

And just in case you're wondering: Barkeeper's Friend is great for cleaning these pans, but doesn't do anything about the spots I've got. That's why I think they're impurities.

But, see, I am really very pleased with these pans, so despite the glitch in this one, I'm likely to just replace it. I think they're great pans for the Amazon price. (Well, okay, that varies a bit... when the price gets low, for sure.)

Make sure you know they can go in the oven, too... I've found that very helpful.

I love Cuisinart products, specially the fact you don't need to much heat to cook with them. That is one of the reasons I bought this pot, my husband didn't believe it and he burned the pot, so I had to replace it. They are always shinny and look very cool in the kitchen. The only thing I don't like is the price... but they are worth it!

"Not well designed to work with the rest of the line" 2009-12-22
By Mainiac (Portland, Maine, USA)
I started with the 14-piece set:

[...]

(which was an Amazon link, so it's funny that they took it out, but oh well. Maybe 'cause Amazon doesn't currently have that version available. It's the 14-piece set with the everyday pan.)

and have been adding pieces here and there. This is a wonderful big pot of the same high quality as the rest. I got it largely to make chicken stock (and have an easy way to remove the bones).

(FWIW, I got mine directly from Amazon, and like all things Amazon, the price fluctuates... you might want to wait for your price, which is what I did.)

To my mind, this set is not well designed to work with the rest of the line:

1. It's an inch bigger in circumference than the standard large pots, including the 6- and 8-quart sauce pots / stock pots and the 3-1/2 quart saute pan. An inch.

2. It's two inches smaller in circumference than the 5-1/2 quart saute pan and the everyday pan.

So, you've got all these pieces with interchangable lids and then you have this anomaly.

Other problems:

1. It's really tall, especially with the "pasta insert" in place. This makes it less functional than it should be. C'mon. Most of us have hoods above our stovetops. With the steamer insert, this is about 11.5 inches high. With the lid on, it's then 13.5 inches high. My hood comes in about about 19 inches above my stove top. (Maybe mine is lower than most?) The big burners are at the back of the stovetop. I pretty much can't see what's in that pot without sliding it forward to the front burner.

To my mind, this should be sized to have the diameter of the 5-1/2 quart saute pan, enabling the interchangable lids and also making a lower profile for the same quantity.

2. The design of the steamer basket is not good.

a. It should be larger. Why have a 2-quart steamer with a 12-quart pot? It makes no sense to use this huge pot for steaming that quantity of vegetables.

b. It should have a higher proportion of holes to metal. It's a lovely sturdy piece, but ends up being somewhere between a double boiler and a steamer because the holes are so small.

c. Ideally, it would be designed to fit other pots in this line... partly to address point 2a. I don't need anywhere near 12 quarts of water to steam 2 quarts of broccoli. Let me use the steamer with a smaller pan! (I do usually use it with the 6-quart sauce pan, though it doesn't sit quite right there.)

Although I first thought I liked this set, I now somewhat regret the purchase because of the design flaws. I'm glad to now have the "pasta insert" for use when making chicken stock (I'm not sure I'll ever use it for pasta myself), but overall this set isn't going to work as well for me as I was hoping.

Pros:

1. I'm so happy to be making my own chicken stock now. It's excellent! So in that sense, I don't regret buying this pan.

A caveat on this line. It's nice cookware, but some of the larger pots have arrived with flaws. (Not this one, for me.) Inspect it carefully and send it back if need be. Two of my pans were distorted on the bottom, sort of like blisters in the metal. To me, this is the tradeoff for getting the nice cookware at a great price.

This set is probably a little big if you're just cooking 1 meal for 2 people, but if you cook a soup to save for the week or a pasta for the week, or for a bigger group or family, this is an IDEAL set. The pieces do fit together very nicely, and the only thing to take into account is storage space. Otherwise, if you're thinking about it, this is a great value!

I've had one of these, an 8-qt. aluminum pot, for many years. I decided to indulge in the stainless steel because tomatoes and apples can not be cooked in aluminum pots. Definitely worth the money.
